Chapter Eleven of the Gospel According to Mark

Holy Week

Chapter 10
Picture
Chapter 12
Mark 11:1-11

“Triumphant Entry”

At last, Jesus enters Jerusalem on his day of coronation—not in a flamboyant palanquin, ornate carriage, or on stately steed—but on a humble donkey. In this sermon, I address the politics of Christ the King. (January 24, 2021)
Mark 11:12-19

“False Fruit
(False Religion)”

Upon triumphantly entering Jerusalem as her true King, Jesus leaves without saying or doing much. All of that changes on the Monday of Holy Week as He curses a fig tree and cleanses the Temple. (February 14, 2021)
Mark 11:20-26

“In and Out of Season”

After Jesus cleansed the Temple and had a peculiar reaction to a fig tree, the Disciples question him regarding the significance of the recent events. This message is delivered by Pastor Tom Friedrichs, executive director of Alongside Ministries. (February 7, 2021)
Mark 11:27-33

“By Whose Authority?”

The dramatic cleansing of the Temple disrupted not only the daily routine but also the very core of the religious leaders. These leaders approach Jesus and begin to challenge his authority. The ensuing conversation reveals the importance of heeding biblical authority, the weightiness of the call to eldership, and the destructiveness of false teaching. (February 21, 2021)
