Chapter Two of the Gospel According to Mark

Miracles

Chapter 3
Mark 2:1-12

“Faith, Forgiveness,
and Healing”

Everyone has friends, and very often we cannot get through life without them. This was especially true for one paralytic, whose four friends lowered him from the roof of Peter’s house just to be healed by Jesus. In this sermon I discuss what it means to be a faith-filled person. (September 1, 2019)
Mark 2:13-17

“Tax Collectors
and Sinners”

Jesus makes plain and clear that his ministry is to liberate sinners from bondage to unrighteousness. No other disciple of Jesus can speak to this first hand than Levi. (September 8, 2019)
Mark 2:18-22

“Fasting and Wineskins”

Jesus was extremely artful in elocution. His use of illustrations and allegories help us, even 2,000 years later, to better understand the Gospel. In this sermon I get real personal by looking at the wineskins and patches in this congregation. (September 15, 2019)
Mark 2:23-3:6

“Lord of the Sabbath”

Paul makes clear that Jesus came not to abolish the Law but to fulfill it. At the end of Mark 2, Jesus dismantles the Pharisees’ legalistic rituals around the Sabbath and shows how he fulfills the Fourth Commandment as the Lord of the Sabbath. (September 29, 2019)
