After receiving Abraham's worship and sealing the covenant promise with a meal, the Lord again repeats that Sarah is the intended matriarch of this promised people. He says this within earshot of Sarah, which prompts her to ridicule the promise. Thanks be to God this is not a works righteousness religion! God continues to reveal Himself to Abraham, this time in the form of theophany. Three men appear before Abraham and the irresistible grace of God becomes clear when the Patriarch rightly worships the Lord. This brief episode provides for us an outline for our attitudes and actions when in the presence of the Lord. |
